Tuesday May 13, 2:00pm [Shell station in Francistown, Botswana ]

We might be making our last stops – for meat and milk products that need to be kept cold. What an adventure it has been! I’m in the Isuzu next to 210 liters of petrol, somewhat less diesel that Fanny just finished filling, and hundreds of dollars worth of good and hardware supplies.

Well, this morning we had coffee in our hotel room and ate sandwiches we had packed before heading out to shop. This has not been a trivial exercise, but we have been blessed. It took some time for Fanny to get more cash from the bank while the rest of us went to locate some hardware supplies down the street. We did get a bunch of renovation supplies right away, but had to get more primer and floor paint at another location. The majority of the groceries were purchased at a huge, bulk dry goods store like Sam’s Club. I thought we would be sitting on all the food in order to make it fit, but Fanny is an expert at this sort of thing and we packed it in no problem.

What started out as two shopping carts full tuned into three.

Stuck again in the small parking lot. OK, one of us needs to back up. Made it, and not too worse for wear...but still a bunch more goods to pack in.

We had more chicken for lunch at a to-go place just down from KFC called “Chicken Licken”.

Zimbabwe isn't the only country with an extreme fondness for chicken. Botswana has a weakness as well.

I remember a slightly worrisome time this afternoon when Fanny mentioned that Melissa and I might have to pose as married in order to get all the food across the border since families are allowed to declare more purchases than individuals. But since then, we have come up with an alternate plan of dividing the goods that mainly involves trusting God and relying on our American citizenship.

Earlier in the day on a street in Francistown, Claudio couldn't resist a "perfect" photo-op.
