Missions
Zimbabwe May 2008 Carl's travel journal

Saturday May 17, 10:10pm [ Gweru , Zimbabwe ]

On the way back to Gweru, we made several stops. First, Fanny wanted to show us the Chinhoyi Caves, so we got to see the blue Sleeping Pool from two different locations. This was a real treat though the actual walking distance underground was fairly short.

Descending into the cave

The water has an amazing blue glow. I tried to hold the camera steady for this longer exposure.

Rick does pretty good with the flash on apparently.

Here is looking down on the pool from another vantage point.

After climbing down

I think the sign here tells the depth of the pool: hundreds of meters Took this picture of a spider near the cave because it was quite the specimen when pointed out to me.

On our way back through Chegutu we stopped at Justin and Judy's place again and actually picked up Judy since she will be traveling with us tomorrow to Victoria Falls.

Is this lunch or supper? Doesn't matter - just eat it!

Also in Chegutu, is a town lot where Fanny and Martha started building a house of their own some years ago. With the mission work in Gweru, continued building has been put on hold, but it was nice to get a tour of the large brick structure. There was even a family of squatters staying in one of the rooms. This is not uncommon unless you have money to hire security for your property. In this case, the Nyamutoras decided that these people were probably to leave be and hope their presence would provide free security.

A stitched panoramic of the "new" house started years ago.

Here is the dad of a family that looked to be just staying there Electronics keep the them entertained here too
